Recent tragedies have exposed serious deficiencies in America's emergency response capabilities. Too often, first responders cannot communicate with each other and lack the ability to access critical information. The FRC is committed to providing first responders with the resources they need to make a safe and effective emergency response.
Washington Congressman Dave Reichert has introduced a resolution into the House of Representatives designating September 25, 2007, as National First Responder Appreciation Day. Urge your Representatives to support the resolution. TAKE ACTION HERE
The resolution (S.Res.215), introduced by Senator Wayne Allard, was cosponsored by over 30 Senators, including presidential hopefuls John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton, Homeland Security Committee Chair Joseph Lieberman, and Majority Whip Dick Durbin.
"Firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical workers deserve to be recognized for their heroic work. I support the First Response Coalition's call for a ‘National First Responder Appreciation Day.'" – Senator Susan Collins (Maine)
"I commend the First Response Coalition for its efforts to honor [first responders] with a national day of recognition, but Congress must also do much more to provide the support and equipment they so urgently need." – Congresswoman Jane Harman (California)
"This report should guide the Department of Homeland Security, Congress, and state and local officials in their efforts to achieve interoperable communications so they can better protect the American people during every day emergencies as well as major catastrophes." - Senator Joseph Lieberman
